MAY 2017- “A MIGHTY FORTRESS IS OUR GOD” AND “AFRICAN HARMONY” BY WORLD CLASS, CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY CHICAGO WIND SYMPHONY PERFORMANCES IN SOUTH AFRICA
The renowned Concordia Chicago University Wind Symphony will be touring South Africa as part of the 500th centenary celebration of the Reformation with a repertoire including gospel and secular music from the 12th to the 21st of May 2017. The programme includes a version of the well-known composition “A mighty fortress is our God” by Dr. Martin Luther and a new composition called “African Harmony” by well-known composer Johan de Meij.
The Wind Symphony is the premiere instrumental ensemble at Concordia University and has travelled the globe widely and performed in the USA, Europe and Asia on numerous invitations. The orchestra is known for its excellent sound and extra-ordinary presentations of existing and new composition and a commitment to the finest traditional and contemporary sacred and secular repertoire. The Wind Symphony has recorded thirteen compact discs of sacred music. South African choirs ( The New Apostolic Church Choir in Cape Town and the KZN Midlands Youth Choir in Pietermaritzburg) will participate in the performances.
The group of 65 players will participate in the Wind Symphony performances under Prof Dr Richard Fischer of the Music Department of the Concordia University Chicago.
